Collection: 1920 Collection
When I was a child, I loved playing with my mother’s jewelry box. It was one of those secret, locked boxes where the key was hidden inside the box itself. Even after I learned how to open it, it always felt magical to discover the key and the jewelry pieces inside.
I’ve also loved watching all the little girls in my life explore their grandmother’s jewelry boxes, trying on rings and necklaces, imagining themselves as princesses or empresses from times long past.
I have always been fascinated by my grandmother’s engagement ring. My grandfather worked in a metallurgy company, and the ring he bought was very simple—a small gold band with a tiny pearl at the center. Its simplicity captivated me. My grandmother’s parents were against their marriage, so they ran away together. I believe the ring symbolized both their love and the precariousness of their early life together.
This collection is inspired by all the stories from my childhood and the fascination that little girls have for their grandmother’s jewelry, combining gold and natural pearls—the kind used before the 1940s, before the introduction of cultured pearls. Our pearls are, of course, natural pearls from Bahrain, my second home—pearls that fascinated Jacques Cartier, who traveled to the island at the start of the 20th century in search of these treasures.
This collection is an ode to the timeless beauty of jewelry that touches our hearts and a tribute to all the girls who have ever rummaged through their mothers’ and grandmothers’ jewelry boxes.
