Natural pearls, like any other product of nature, are living organism. Keeping their beauty requires proper care and maintenance.
Wearing your natural pearl jewellery is better than leaving it in a jewelry box. When pearls are stored for a long period of time, it causes the pearls to dehydrate, become brittle and lose their luster. Wearing your pearl jewelry often allows it to rehydrate through the moist from your skin and fresh air which will keep it in beautiful condition.
When storing, be mindful to keep the pearls somewhere with modest temperature. Exposing the pearls in high temperature for a prolonged period of time may also cause the pearls layers to dehydrate, as such avoid wearing them while sunbathing.
To preserve the luster of the natural pearls, we advise to avoid any contact with chemicals or cosmetics (shampoo, soap, perfume, bleach, alcohol, chlorine…) as well as with tap water.
Here are some tips on how to properly clean & store natural pearls.
How to clean natural pearls:
- Mix a solution of lukewarm water and a few drops of mild organic soap.
- Dip a soft, clean cloth into the water and gently wipe down the pearls.
- Dampen another soft, clean cloth with fresh water. Wipe off the pearls to remove any soap residue.
- Place the pearls on a soft towel and let them air-dry thoroughly before returning the jewelry to storage.
How to properly store pearl jewelleries:
- When you take the pearls off, wipe them down with a soft cloth to remove any dirt or skin oil.
- Real pearls are organic, which means their color is subject to change.
- Store pearls in a non-abrasive fabric pouch or a fabric-lined jewelry box to prevent yellowing.
- Don't store your pearls with other jewelry because pearls can be scratched easily when metal or gemstones rub against them.
